How will you measure if the challenge is diminishing, or the student is becoming more successful? Keeping a daily journal for the classroom and a communication chart to send home. You can have a daily chart that gives the child a rating of 1-4 on his behaviors. 1-being poor and 4-being excellent. The child will take home every day so the parent can read, sign it and send back to school with any comments or questions. Keeping open communication with the parents and everyone involved is key!
Look for patterns. Does the student seem to act out at a particular time during the day? Maybe the student acts out just before recess. This could be because the student is anxious to get out of the classroom. This student may need help regulating his or her energy right before recess.
Simple technique to determine if the strategy is working. Test the theory, Is using positive and negative reinforcements working for the child? Is the student still struggling with the behaviors? Is the student staying on task through using ClassDojo? Is the Consequence Oops board helping the behavior?
Giving rewards such as extra recess time or extra time to get his assignment done helping with the child's behavior? By keeping a daily log will help determine if the behavior plans are working.
Stay consistent, patient and Don’t sweat the small stuff and be willing to make some compromises.
